Our cotton batiks are done by local artisans in East Africa using tradtional methods of dyes and hot wax. They are each unique.

This batik depicts a scene commonly found in most parts of Africa where women often move about with their friends when collecting water. Those jugs and other things which need to be transported from one place to another are usually carried on the top top of their heads.

The Maasai tribe is found in Kenya and Tanzania. They were never colonized and today still favor their traditional attire. They were once a warrior tribe where a rite of passage for the young "morans", young warriors, was the slaying of a lion. The tribe is known for their regal bearing and body adornment.

Note: Our batiks depict many tradional scenes which are not yet shown here. The colors used by the local artesans vary as well from rich ochres to blues, yellows, browns, black and whites and reds.
